<abstract>
Objectives. This systematic review critically examines the application and theoretical prospects of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of sports through the perspectives of the theoretical foundations of AI.
Methods. A comprehensive study of previous literature, involving the meticulous scrutiny of 2,368 articles, led to the methodical screening of 20 documents for review. The investigation prioritizes the analysis of computer algorithms and various technologies, with a particular emphasis on AI in sports.
Results. The results indicated that Artificial Neural Networks (ANN) dominate the sports domain, showcasing a high frequency of utilization and underscoring the prevalent use of AI technology in this domain.
Conclusion. The study methods were predetermined in a registered protocol on PROSPERO (registration number: CRD42024497839). Specifically, the data sources used in this study were limited to literature published from January 2011 to April 2024. In this process, the databases searched included Semantic Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Scopus. After applying the inclusion and exclusion criteria, a total of 2368 articles were excluded, and consequently, only 20 articles were finally included for comprehensive analysis. Semantic Scholar, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Scopus were searched in this study, and the main limitation lies in the possibility that data from other databases may have been omitted.
</abstract>
