Abstract

Background. When asked about employees' political behavior in the workplace, they often see it as signs of good behavior and see it as an ugly act that achieves personal goals at the expense of others, and May be harmful to the goals of the organization or individuals.
Objectives. This study aimed to test a model of factors affecting political behavior in the sports industry. In the study, other objectives such as the moderating role of political skills and will, as well as the mediating role of the perception of organizational politics are discussed.
Methods. The sample size of the present research is 705 people which are employees of the Ministry of Sport and federations (of football, volleyball, handball, basketball, weight-lifting, wrestling, taekwondo, veterans and disabled). These were selected by simple random sampling and a questionnaire was used to evaluate the variables under study.
Results. The results did not show
significant direct relationship between inter-organizational factors and show that perception of organizational politics mediated the relationship between inter-organizational factors and political behavior. The results showed that political skills and will, played the role of the moderator of organizational factors with political behavior.
Conclusion. Politics is a fact of life in the organizations. Those who are not able to observe their political behavior cannot understand the fact that
organization is a political system. Thus, the organizations should lead to the politicization and managers should make necessary attempts towards reaching organizational goals which is
important.

Abstract

Background. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, is the most common reason of liver disorders that can be controlled by dieting and regular physical activity.
Objectives. The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of aerobic continuous training on serum levels of myonectin, insulin resistance and liver enzymes in rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.
Methods. Thirty-four male Wistar rats (6 - 8 weeks old) were randomly assigned into two groups: normal diet (N = 9) and high-fat diet (N = 25). Through 12-week high-fat diet, induction of fatty liver was performed. In order to confirm non-alcoholic fatty liver induction, seven rats fed with high-fat diet were tested. The 18 remaining rats were randomly assigned to two groups: high-fat diet plus sedentary activity (n = 9) and high-fat diet plus aerobic continuous training (n = 9). The aerobic group has performed running on a treadmill at the intensity of 50 - 60% VO2max, for eight weeks and five sessions per week. The results were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Tukey’s post hoc tests at the statistical significance level of p ≤ 0.05.
Results. The significant body weight increase induced by high-fat diet was controlled by aerobic continuous training (p < 0.05).  The serum levels of myonectin, insulin, glucose, alanine aminotransferase and aspartate aminotransferase enzymes and insulin resistance improved significantly after eight weeks of aerobic continuous training (p < 0.05).
Conclusion. It seems that aerobic continuous training can improve insulin resistance and liver enzymes by reducing serum myonectin levels in rats with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease.

Abstract

Background. Controlling and manipulating inter-repetition rest (IRR) could develop diverse levels of fatigue and manifest changes to lifting mechanics.
Objectives. This study's objective was to examine the effect of IRR on the kinematic of snatch lifting during multiple set exercise protocol.
Methods. Fifteen male (n=15) athletes participated in this study (age = 21.0 ± 1.41 years; body weight = 60.82 ± 2.45 kg; height = 165.70 ± 10.88 cm; snatch one-repetition maximum (1RM)/body mass = 0.73 ± 0.117). Session 1 consisted of anthropometric and 1RM determination. Sessions 2-4 involved subjects performing three sets x 5 repetitions of 85% 1RM with 10, 30, or 50 seconds of IRR implemented randomly. Ankle, knee, and hip joint velocity and barbell velocity (BV) were obtained during each protocol using VICON Motion Analysis (100Hz).
Results. Repeated measure ANOVA showed significant differences found in ankle, knee, and hip joint velocity. The barbell velocity showed a significant effect between IRR, (F (2, 28) = 22.831, P < 0.05). Repeated measure Manova showed a significant effect of IRR on the maintenance of kinematics variables across repetition. Barbell velocity showed a significant effect of IRR on the maintenance of velocity across repetition (P = 0.029).
Conclusion. Due to the differences found between IRR protocols, the implementation of IRR may increase or decrease kinematic output due to the different levels of fatigue. The implementation of IRR can help to maintain kinematic variables, which often are affected by neuromuscular fatigue occurred with continuous repetition.

Abstract

Background. Recent research has revealed the importance of psychological skills training and various physiological exercises to improve sporting performance. In light of all these facts, knowing that psychological skills training is necessary to improve sporting performance, and knowing the importance of the psychological performance program to develop these skills and ensure the control and stability of emotions, particularly in adolescence, led to the emergence of this study.
Objectives. This study aimed to understand the effect of 10-week psychological skills training and positive feedback on handball players’ self-efficacy beliefs and shot accuracy.
Methods. Thirty-eight female handball players aged between 15 and 19 were included in two study groups and one control group. Whereas the first study group received psychological skill training, the second group received planned positive feedback and psychological skills training. The data were collected through a personal information form, a self-efficacy scale (five-point Likert-type scale), and a shot accuracy measurement scale. Then the pretest-posttest controlled group patterned model was used to determine the differences between the groups. GraphPad Prism 8 was used for statistical analysis with the conventional method.
Results. 10-week psychological skills training increased the self-efficacy performance of young handball players in both study groups compared to their pretest results (P<0.01), and the increase was significant in study group 2 compared to the control group (P<0.01). The results also showed that the psychological skills training increased the performance of the shot accuracy of the handball players in both study groups compared to their pretest results. Still, the increase was significant in the study group receiving positive feedback (P<0.001). Moreover, the increase in the shot accuracy test performance of the positive feedback-receiving group was higher than the control and non-receiving group (P<0.01 and P<0.001, respectively).
Conclusion. In conclusion, this study determined that the psychological skills training program increased the handball players’ self-efficacy and shot accuracy. Positive feedback strengthened the effect of the training even more on the self-efficacy beliefs and shot accuracy performance of the young athletes.

Abstract

Background. Persistent physical fatigue (PPhF) is one of the most common issues in athletes; salivary human herpes virus 6 and/or 7 (HHV-6/7) have recently attracted attention as novel microbiological markers for its assessment.
Objectives. We aimed to investigate potential variabilities of salivary HHV-6/7 levels in athletes, along with traditional assessments.
Methods. We conducted an observational study over two weeks including 54 healthy male university athletes (n = 44) and non-athletes (n = 10). We used a questionnaire on daily life to monitor the participants’ states and habits. The main measures were salivary HHV-6/7 and secretory immunoglobulin A (SIgA) levels, and total mood disturbance (TMD) scores in the Profile of Mood States.
Results. In the questionnaire on daily life, subjective fatigue increased in the athletes (p < 0.05), while the health condition and daily habits did not change in either group (p > 0.05); accordingly, fatigue may be due to training-induced physical stressors rather than pathological events or changes in daily habits. Salivary HHV-6 levels increased only in the athletes after one week (p < 0.05), whereas salivary HHV-7 and SIgA levels, and TMD scores remained unchanged (p > 0.05).
Conclusion. These findings suggested that salivary HHV-6 may be a more sensitive marker of PPhF than others.

Abstract

Background. Motor skill teaching interventions with a skill education component effectively improve fundamental motor skills (FMS) in children with Autism (ASD). However, few studies have considered if self-directed physical activity with a guide is sufficient to enhance FMS in this population.
Objectives. This study explored whether a guided physical activity improves FMS in children with ASD and examined if benefits for ASD children were greater than for typically developing children.
Methods. Children with ASD (n = 4) and typically developing (n = 7) children were recruited to participate in a 10-week guided physical activity intervention. The intervention consisted of four 12-minute activity stations structured according to the North Carolina Treatment and Education of Autistic and Related Communications-Handicapped Children. Children engaged in self-directed play at each station, and guides provided support when requested.
Results. Preliminary findings support that guided physical activity has the potential to enhance running (t = 2.6, p = 0.08) and kicking (t = 2.36, p = 0.07) in children with ASD. However, FMS gains in ASD children did not exceed gains made by typically developing children.
Conclusion. The effect of guided physical activity for children with ASD should be explored in larger studies as this type of intervention may be feasible to deploy in multiple settings. Highlights. Guided physical activity may be a feasible and effective means of supporting FMS development in children with ASD.

Abstract

Background. This study presents sports performance based on food nutrition. The study aims to increase athletes' power and anaerobic fatigue by eating enough food nutrition to use sports exercise on a cycle ergometer by a scenario study.
Objectives. The cycle ergometer model and simulation of energy-power is impacted by nutrition and movement as the study linked energy and power (the athlete scenario).
Methods. This study conducted a theoretical study using 21 scenario athlete weights and a cycle ergometer device. It focused on athlete strength and anaerobic fatigue using flywheel resistance. The study demonstrated reliability and mathematical modeling of scenario data. This study was based on SPSS 28.0 for data analysis and evaluation (one-way ANOVA, spectral analysis, autocorrelation function, and T-Test), assessing the reliability of scenario data using regression analysis.
Results. The modeling showed that the scenario athletes with 21 different weights had an anaerobic fatigue efficiency greater than 80% and anaerobic power capacities between 10.2 [kW] and 16.7 [kW].
Conclusion. The athletes' anaerobic capacity and fatigue increased with weight, but their efficiency (capacity) remained the same. As a result, ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) is produced and used by the body, which enhances performance. This study demonstrates how the athlete's social economic environment and movement patterns impact power-energy.

Abstract

Background. Previous studies have reported that obesity is associated with poor respiratory function including reduction of functional residual capacity (FRC) and expiratory residual volume (ERV).
Objectives. To investigate the effect of forward trunk lean position (FTLP) combined pursed-lip breathing (PLB) on tidal volume (VT), volume of oxygen (VO2), the volume of carbon dioxide (VCO2), heart rate (HR) during post-exercise recovery.
Methods. Twenty-two obese females performed two sitting positions, FTLP and upright position (UP) combined with PLB for 2 minutes after 40 minutes of running at moderate intensity. VT, VO2, VCO2, HR were measured in these 2 minutes. The recorded values were averaged in 30s intervals.
Results. Although the average VT during FTLP+PLB was higher than UP+PLB, there was no statistically significant difference (30s: p=0.718, 60s: p=0.114, 90s: p=0.682, 120s: p=0.927). VT in UP+PLB at the 90s decreased while VT in FTLP+PLB at the 90s remained close to the highest point in the 60s. However, the difference was not significant. There were no significant differences in VO2, VCO2, and HR between FTLP+PLB and UP+PLB at all-time points.
Conclusion. FTLP+PLB and UP+PLB induce comparable changes in VT, VO2, VCO2, and HR during recovery after moderate-intensity continuous exercise in obese females. FTLP+PLB seemed to be better for maintaining VT during recovery.

Abstract

Background. Obesity is considered a major global public health issue. Interestingly, physical exercise has a vital role in preventing, managing, and treating obesity. However, bariatric surgery has been reported as an effective treatment option.
Objectives. The present trial aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a 6-month, real-world, multi-component exercise intervention with bariatric surgery to improve anthropometric and physical function parameters in individuals with obesity.
Methods. Seventy-one individuals (73% female, mean age: 39.7±20.3 years) with obesity (mean body mass index: 38.4±3.0 kg/m2) were recruited, and 69 completed the study. Participants were divided into i) exercise group (EX, n=25; randomly assigned), ii) bariatric surgery group (BS, n=23; group-randomized), and iii) non-exercise and non-surgical control group (C, n=23; randomly assigned). Anthropometric parameters, handgrip strength, functional aerobic capacity, and flexibility were assessed at baseline and after six months.
Results. The EX and BS groups experienced beneficial changes in anthropometrics, functional aerobic capacity, and flexibility compared with C (p<0.001). BS demonstrated greater improvements in anthropometrics and functional aerobic capacity than C (p<0.05), while EX showed higher increases in handgrip strength than BS (p<0.05). Also, moderate negative and positive associations were found between anthropometrics and physical function changes in EX and BS, respectively.
